Election Results and Feeding Our Community
We're thrilled with the results of the November 4 elections and appreciate everyone who contributed - volunteers, candidates, voters, and more. We're excited to see the good work that will happen as a result. WESA reported: Democrats flipped borough council seats, municipal mayoral offices, township supervisor and school board positions throughout Western Pennsylvania. In the more than 460 races for local municipal office in Allegheny County, Republicans won only 11, estimates Chris Nicholas, a veteran Republican political consultant and author of the PA Political Digest newsletter.
Meanwhile -- we're all living with Donald Trump's shutdown of the Federal Government and the way it's harming our community. One way to help: If you're able, donate to a local food bank. WESA lists places to donate and find food.
The damage caused by the shutdown extends throughout our country. Head Start programs have lost money. Flights are delayed. Small businesses aren't getting loans. Low Income Home Energy Assistance is suspended. And the economy is taking a $7-14 billion hit (CNN).
We're in this shutdown because Republicans want to make it harder for Americans to get health care through Obamacare and Medicaid. Let's keep electing good leaders -- like we did November 4 -- and supporting our community.
